Rainy.

“Laughing Wild” by Durang， in Lincoln Center. I didn’t know anything about this play， and expected a normal comedy play， but it turned out a totally unusual play， which I loved. It consists of three part; the monologue of a woman (Laughing Wild)， the monologue of a man (Seeking Wild)， and the scene they are interacting (Dreaming Wild).

In the monologues， they are talking about their lives. The Woman has the difficulty in living in urban America. She uses a very loud laugh to control her emotion， but it sound empty. The Man talks about his positive thinking that he learned in the “Personality Course”， but he apparently hasn’t assimilated it yet. And both of them mention the experience in the supermarket; as Man was standing at the aisle of tuna fish， the Woman who also wanted to see tuna fish got mad and attacked him. In the third section， they get together in their dreams overlapping， and everything is going crazy.

Both of them， especially the Woman， were so stupid and crazy. It was funny， but in some ways it looked so scary. I believe my boss Itoh san will love this play. The role of the Man was played by the author， Chiristopher Durang， and he looked very composed. I cannot act like him， especcially in comedies.

The very sad fact is， however， that my understanding was not enough at all. I wanna talk about the play more， but I have no idea what it is all about. I have to have read the script. Hmm， what’s wrong with my English? I can listen much better than before， and there are not too many words that are not in my vocabulary (there are so many words， though). I think I am still “translating” in my head. Need to think in English.
