Sunny.

Watched the video of the play “A Streetcar Named Desire (欲望という名の電車)” in Lincoln Center. I spent three hour in the video room, and I still leave the last scene to see.

It was not very shocking to me like “The Glass Menagerie”, though. The actress who played the heroine, Blanche might be the reason why I didn’t like it so much. I didn’t like her way of speaking and making the character. Maybe it’s my English skills, but I didn’t feel the depth of the character Blanche, who must be very impressive. To me, she was just a girl with a hot temper.

I loved the other characters, however. The actor of the role “Stanley” was great, who expressed so many aspects of his humanity. He looked alike Gary Sinise (ゲイリー・シニーズ) but I am not sure, by the way. Stanley is kind of a--hole in the play, but I couldn’t hate him, because he has his own life and emotion and I could see it through his acting. He had a great body, by the way. I wanna be like that.

I found myself spaced out a few times during the play, maybe because I was not really following. I read the script once before watching the video, but it seems not enough. I was not as in the play as I was watching “The Glass Menagerie”. Hmm, my English…

After that, I saw the Broadway musical “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (ペテン師とサギ師)”, a comedy about two stupid frauds, which is based on the films of the same name (「ペテン師とサギ師/だまされてリビエラ(1988)」「寝室ものがたり(1964)」). Tit was nominated for Tony Awards in 2005, and won for the best musical actor, Norbert Leo Butz. My friend got 26-dollor tickets for this musical as the lottery tickets, which were for box seats.

I loved it, I still had the problem in listening, but I enjoyed it so much. There were few original cast, but the role “Freddy” was played by the original cast Norbert Leo Butz, and he was so great. I laughed a lot. He was a so crazy guy in the musical, and so funny, but my friend told me he could also play a serious part very nicely. I got interested in him, so I will check some of his work in Lincoln Center.

The musical had many straight-play parts, I guess more than many other musicals, and they made it really well. Their singing and acting were done in same level; both of them were coming from the same place, their emotions, so I didn’t feel unnatural or anything watching it. They were free on the stage. I have to be like them.

In my house, I checked the Internet and I found both of the performances I saw today was played by Marlon Brand(マーロン・ブランド) before, in their original works, which is interesting. I wanna check both of the films, because they are really different works. I am so interested in how an actor could play both of “Stanley” and “Freddy”.

Oh, a lot of things to watch.
