Sunny.
Went to Lincoln Center (リンカーンセンター) where we can see the videos of all the plays and musicals in the history of Broadway. It is really really great place for the actors for their study, but I‘d not been here until today. I don’ know why, just I didn’t have the opportunity.
I took a long time to decide which show to see when I made the reservation. I thought I should see something historical for the first time that would be memorable. Sounds a little stupid. Anyway, finally I decided to see ”The Glass Menagerie” by Tennessee Williams.
It was soooo great! I was about to cry, well, actually I did cry a little. It was really different from just reading to get a real look. The complicated human minds that I couldn’t see during reading and even working on the play were coming into my body through the actors. Now I love Amanda.
Their ways of speech were so clear that I could understand everything. Actually it was kind of too theatrical and didn’t sound like a real conversation, but their emotions and passions made it real. I think I cannot do like that now; I need to lean more and more.
The monologue in the last part of the play I also worked on in the class was given in a totally different way from mine. The actor who played Tom didn’t hide his emotion at all. I was trying to use persona that everyone has in the mind. Interesting. I wanna try that approach as well.
I was going to choose some musical to watch for next time, but “The Glass Menagerie” was soooooo good that I couldn’t help reserving “A Streetcar Named Desire (欲望という名の電車)”, which is also written by Tennessee Williams.
I regret to have been spending time without coming here.
