1月11日 KABUKIを紐育(New York)で学ぶというこの矛盾。恥じるべき。
Sunny.

Learned Kabuki(歌舞伎), the traditional Japanese drama performed by male actors, in the movement class. The teacher was more familiar with Kabuki than me, so I felt ashamed a little. Most of the students, however, didn’t know Kabuki. I had been thinking Kabuki is the one of the stereotypes of Japan, but they even don’t know Kabuki, which shows they even don’t care. Hmm, more attention please.

In the class, each of us made own Mie(見栄), the set of the movements to show the emotion of the character. Teacher explained as the set of the movements to introduce the character. I think they are a little different. Anyway his explanation was in point, but of course it was difficult to understand for non-Japanese students.

Include me, most of the Mies were strange and looked funny. I could see their images of Japan. We made both of Mies as male characters and female ones, and the female ones were soooo funny, the characters male actors made were not female characters but only the queers. If I don’t regard them as Mies, however, some of them were very emotional and impressive. Two patterns I saw, powerful ones and soft ones, and for me, the latter was more beautiful. I was playing like the former one, though. I need to get rid of my tension from my body.

The contradiction that Japanese learn Japanese thing in U.S.A.
